Arrival

The city still scrapes the sky
Competing with fliers by night
And sleepers by day
Basking in a warming sun
That bakes adobe
Into crumbling dust
Joining those scraping the barrel
Of survival
As they scramble
Across walls and borders
In search of something better
But find they’re still down and out
Until they find refuge
In the welcome of another once unwanted.
